Engage the Empathy
After looking through everyone's empathy survey, I want to say great work to everyone! Also if anyone wouldn't mind helping me figure out how to embed something, I would really appreciate it. As you could probably tell, I couldn't quite figure that out and ended up just posting a link to my survey.
I was really impressed with the creativity that people put into their surveys and the different types of questions- some were short answer, multiple choice, pictures, etc. It made it really engaging for me to have different types of questions to respond to. These surveys also got me doing some deep thinking, as some of the questions were ones I hadn't asked myself in a while ( or ever)! I noticed themes around peace, motivation and hobbies. A unique survey I took centered around AI. I hadn't given AI much thought until I took that survey, so I felt like I was really thinking deeply about it for the first time. It was a really interesting one for me. I truly didn't know much about the topic, but I answered the best that I could.
Moving forward while creating my user guide, the surveys were helpful in several ways. They gave me an idea of the people who will be looking at my user guide. From their surveys, I felt like I also learned a lot about them. I will take who they are into account when I make my user guide so that the guide will be engaging for them. I also really enjoyed seeing the different ways that people put together their surveys, which reminded me that there isn't always one right way to do things. Everyone did theirs differently and everyone's was fantastic.
I loved the AI one as well for similar reasons -- it got us thinking deeply about something many of us have little familiarity with. I'm wondering what this might say about our propensity to create surveys that are shallow and less than engaging and what that might mean for getting useful insights and actionable data? This summer and fall seemed to be the era of the online survey to make decisions about all sorts of things and gather stakeholder input, but how many of those surveys we took offered anything like the level of engagement the AI or motorcycle themed survey did?
